FAQs

Are fitness influencers good personal trainers?
In general, a personal trainer has years of experience and some sort of training credentials that validate their skill set as a fitness coach. A personal trainer may also be an influencer, though most influencers are not personal trainers. An influencer is just someone who has a significant following on social media, which is not proof of their expertise as a fitness professional or their coaching ability. Be way of personal training programs offered by influencers.

How many female personal trainers are there?
According to survey results from Brown University in 2016, the distribution of female/male personal trainers in the survey sample was 54.5% and 45.5%, respectively.

How often are personal trainers certified?
It is very likely that a personal trainer has either a Bachelor in Sports Medicine (or a related subject area like human kinetics) or at least one form of fitness coach certification. In the same survey conducted by Brown University, they found that less than 3% of all personal trainers have neither a personal training certification nor any formal university education.
